See if You Need Medicare Supplement Insurance

People who are 65 or older enjoy a federal health insurance program called Medicare. There are other qualified people who can get Medicare but the important fact to remember is that it will pay much of their healthcare bill, but not all. That means they have to pay out of their own pocket some of the cost of keeping themselves healthy. The best way to make sure that those bills not covered by Medicare are taken cared of is to get Medicare supplement insurance. This type of insurance can help pay some of those uncovered healthcare bills.

To date, there are twelve standardized Medicare supplement insurance plans and each one gives policy holders various combination of benefits that fits their needs. However, not all people who have Medicare need a supplement insurance policy. Depending on their type of health coverage, the gaps in their Medicare coverage may already be part of those which are covered. Those who probably have no need for Medicare supplement insurance include those who have joined a Medicare Advantage plan, those who have group health insurance through their employer or former employer and those whose Medicare premiums and other out of pocket costs were paid by Medicaid or the Qualified Medicare Beneficiary Program.
